St Spyridons Church
This project saw Medieval Masonry appointed as the main contractor by a conservation architect to work on Behalf of the PCC of St Spyridons Church, Great Yarmouth. This project had many elements to it and needed the combined expertise of all of our experienced tradesman.
The project had work on every elevation of the church excluding the tower. Both aisle slate roofs were removed, timbers treated and repaired there necessary, south aisle slates were replaced in their entirety with new welsh slates and the North aisle slates were sorted through with the majority being relayed. This Grade II listed Church is brick built.
The clerestory window glazing was removed, taken away to be restored and brought back to site to be reinstated. Whilst the glazing was off site our team of masons cut out all the decayed stonework to the windows and replaced in stone to match the original. The same repairs were undertaken to the chancel south window.
Our heritage builders cut out and repointed approximately 60% of the building including buttress’s and pilasters with mortar to closely match the original paying close attention to the size of the aggregate in the sand and creating the correct colour. Medieval Masonry have a wealth of experience on these type of church restoration projects and want to continue restoring these Historically important buildings so that generations after us can enjoy and learn from them.
